KATHAK is one of the eight major forms of Indian classical dance. Traditionally the travelling bards of ancient northern India known as Kathakars ( storytellers) are wanderers communicating stories from the great epics and ancient mythology through dance, songs and music. Kathak dancers tell various stories through their hand movements and footwork, but most importantly through their facial expressions. Enjoy this a rich, elegant and exciting art form that has evolved over centuries.
Deepak Maharaj has a head start as the son of Pandit Birju Maharaj – scion of the Kalka Bindadin's Lucknow gharana. At 46, he is young yet mature and is blessed with a pleasant stage presence and a melodious voice. He knows the tricks of the trade and is a professional performer.

カタックはインド北部の古典舞踊です。インドとイスラーム一つの文化の影響を受けかつては宮廷内で愛された、他のインド舞踊とはかなり異なったスタイルのダンスです。両足首につけた100-200個の鈴が鳴り響くリズミカルなフットワーク、高速のスピン流麗なハンドジェスチャーが特徴です。本公演ではパフォーマンスと併せて各演目の解説もお楽しみいただけます。インドのパーカッションタブラ”と舞踊が織り成す優美な世界をぜひご覧ください。
